Naamod

Like All the Other Nations: Jewish Desires for (and against) King and Country

We're collaborating with Naamod to explore Jewish desire for, and resistance to, earthly power. Starting with an evocative passage in the Book of Samuel, where the Jews ask for a king against God's wishes, we'll trace our yearning to be like "all the other nations” from Rabbinic commentators all the way to the Israeli Declaration of independence.

Sadeh

Sleepless at Sadeh

We're coming DOWN FROM THE CLOUD at Sadeh Farm in Orpington, Kent, to offer a weekend of Shabbes, Seudahs (feasts) and shtark Talmud learning in Europe for our second time. What constitues guilt in the eyes of our ancestors? When the stakes are life and death, how does our tradition guide our decisions? How does Jewish Law deal with bias? In xevruta learning pairs, we’ll explore these questions with the help of a mind-bending piece of Talmud and Berukha HaShem we’ll get to bring it to you live!
